Start with what your bill is telling you
A household electricity bill includes much more than heating. Before deciding a heat pump is responsible for an increase, compare the billing period, tariff, household activity and weather with the previous period.
A new person working from home or more frequent hot-water use can also change consumption. Keep the question specific: is the system underperforming, being used for longer, or serving a different need?
Make the existing system work well
Check that furniture and curtains do not block airflow. Follow the manufacturer’s filter-care instructions and ask about servicing if performance has changed.
Review heating mode, temperature and timer settings. Match operation to the times you actually need the space, while taking account of your household’s comfort requirements. There is no single bill-saving percentage that applies to every property.
Consider the room as well as the heater
Warmth escaping through the building can undermine an otherwise suitable system. Insulation and draughts deserve consideration alongside heating equipment. Addressing those issues may change what size or type of system is appropriate.
If separate rooms remain cold, discuss distribution and layout. Replacing a working unit with a larger one does not automatically solve a poor airflow path.
Compare a complete upgrade proposal
When replacement is appropriate, ask for the proposed model, capacity, positioning, installation scope and maintenance requirements. Compare the full job rather than only the advertised unit price.
If finance is involved, consider the repayment terms as well as the upfront amount. Running-cost estimates should state their assumptions and should not be treated as guaranteed household savings.
Make the next step practical
Bring your concerns, room measurements if available and any system model details to the conversation. We can assess the property and discuss the changes most relevant to your situation.
